A truly remarkable set, performed at Beethoven's metronome markings.
I was searching for a modern digital recording for the Beethoven 1st and 2nd symphonies.
Forse non da avere come unica versione dell'integrale delle sinfonie, ma senza dubbio un'opera di valore elevatissimo.

Although the recorded music industry in all genres is a travesty of its former self, Decca has still allowed them to make some wonderful recordings.
#1-4 are superb.

The Limited Edition was fully subscribed before manufacture, and that in less than two months, 11,000 sets have already been sold over the counter, with thousands more ordered by dealers. "For this flawlessly recorded new Beethoven cycle, it's highly likely that Chailly will be adding new prizes to his already long list of recording awards."
This fifth really interested me throughout, and the first movement of the eight symphony was worth the price of the box alone.
Based on a series of enthusiastically-acclaimed Leipzig concerts, the Cycle was recorded over a period of three years, and is generously accompanied by no less than eight of the composer's overtures - now available on five individual releases as well.

This complete cycle of Beethoven's nine Symphonies is a landmark event for Decca, for Maestro Chailly, and for the Gewandhaus Orchestra, where he has been Kapellmeister since 2005.
The interpretations are so fresh and make these well known symphonies sound new.
the tempo for some of the symphonies is too fast.apart from that, no complaints. I've listened to the first three so far, and have been disappointed.
Beethoven: The Piano Concertos

Beethoven: 9 Symphonies [5 CD/Blu-ray Audio]
From the Haydnesque elegance of the first two symphonies, through the dramatic power of the Fifth, to the grandeur and drama of the Ninth, the orchestra's unique combination of unfailing finesse and renewed fire characterize all these exhilarating performances.
L' orchestra è eccezionale, forse la maggiore attrattiva di questi dischi.
#5 is majestic, not as frenetic as Kleiber's landmark account with the VPO. Beethoven: The 9 Symphonies (6CD)
Chailly's arresting Beethoven cycle bristles with nervous energy and combines the beefy sound of Karajan with the attitudes of the historically sensitive stylists like Gardiner, Harnoncourt and Norrington.
The Beethoven for our times - I'll get back to you on that one.
A reference cycle.

If the victory really is Beethoven's, that will be down to Chailly as well. 1 & 2 These acclaimed performances were recorded live in the Gewandhaus over the last three years, in preparation for the highly-anticipated complete cycles that Maestro Chailly and the orchestra will give in several major European cities in October and November 2011 - performances which will provide the platform for launching these important new recordings This set of the nine Symphonies will also include selected Beethoven Overtures
Chailly Symphony Edition [55 CD]
I do not want the sound of period instruments playing these symphonies.
The cycle showcases the finesse and musicality of the legendary Gewandhaus Orchestra - from the Haydnesque elegance of the first two symphonies, to the grandeur and drama of the choral Ninth Symphony
Please try again. I find those recordings to be interesting reference points, however, I still want the warmth, sonority and depth of sound that modern instruments have.A strong start to Chailly's Leipzig recordings of the Beethoven symphonies
